RACISM, THE CANCER OF SOCIAL PIGMENTS.

The rivalry of internal racism was strengthened by European colonialism under which boundaries were drawn that did not take into consideration the different peoples dwelling within the newly formed provinces. The boundaries were little changed when former European colonies gained independence.

My mommy is my world and I have promised to do everything to make her happy. I lived with my mom till I was 40years, my mom didn’t want me to leave her abode until marriage. At age 25, I met my first lover and we planned to get married. We were the most happiest until i introduced him to mommy.

Mommy has always disclosed her dislike towards Ewes, but I never knew her disdain was infectious until that Friday evening when she banged her door on our face. She didn’t even offer us a seat. She has always said she disliked Ewes even the educated and the God gearing ones.

I always laugh because i saw it as her usual mama and daughter jokes.

She told us in the face that she will not allow us to marry. That her daughter cannot marry a man from the Ewe land because they are evil and heartless. She added that John’s parent have married him to another women in his village, that, John himself will never disclose. It is a part of their culture, she added.

I had to let John go because mommy do not approve our relationship because of his tribe.

As if that was enough, mommy rejected the second man I introduced to her with the justification that Ga men are stingy. Read more about Ga tribe..https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ga-Adangbe_people

I was almost 30 years and almost all the men i met and liked were from the tribe mommy disliked.

It was hell for me because i was torn between my happiness and that of mommy. I was caught in a dilemma.

I don’t believe in racism, I believe we are all one and intersecting to bring into being breads from different species shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m 45 years now and im still unmaried because of my moms cliche and factless knowledge. She still lives in the era of racism and tribal war forgeting time has evolved likewise things have change.

TRIBALISM

There was a hot debate last week on the words used by Rev Badu Kobi in the presence of his congregation on internal racism. Maybe you’ve not chanced on it, take a minute and watch the video.

WHAT IS RACISM?

Racism is a belief that race is the primary determinant of human
traits and capabilit ies and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race” (Merriam-Webster, 2014)

Racism is often related to the white communities where the white man made himself superior over the black man. A classical example is the era of the Apartheid rule in south Africa.

Today, the existed narrative has changed. Internal racism has become rampant in most African setting but for the purpose of this write up, Ghana to be precise.

The rivalry of internal racism was strengthened by European colonialism under which boundaries were drawn that did not take into consideration the different peoples dwelling within the newly formed provinces. The boundaries were little changed when former European colonies gained independence. As a consequence, some African nations have been plagued by inner conflicts, prejudiced attitudes and tribal warfare (Racism in Africa)

The biggest tribal racism in Ghana today aside the Northern conflict surrounds around inter-tribal marriages.

This tribe’s women make good wives- that tribe’s men make good husbands etc.

Parents are frequently grudging with their children because of the tribe they want them to marry from.

In the olden days, parents had the right to marry for their children. Once they decide on whom to marry for their child, they will go and ask for the persons hand in marriage on behalf of their child after a thorough research on the wife to be and the family she hails from.

When the parent make their choice, the children have no option than to go for it. At that time parents had an upper hand on their children’s marriage life.

The world is evolving therefore there is dynamism, homogenizing and heteroginizing of culture. Today you can decide on who to marry although it is relative because some parents are still interfering using tribal war.

Rev Badu kobi has been bold to tell the world of his disdain for women from some tribes and i know that out of the several critiques are people who vomit and swallow their vomit. They will criticize publicly but in the the four corners of their homes they are causing their innocent children to suffer because of their ancient belief and knowledge.

The story above is a fiction. It is my projection into the future if my mother doesn’t end her tribalism and racism.

Tribalism must stop. We can’t be fighting Racism against Africa if internally we are at grudging with one another beacause of tribal differences.

This is a piece of my mind….

  1. Nice piece. But I must say that What Rev Kobi said what his option. Also I friend of mine has also confirmed it. My point is there will always be bad nuts among tribes, be it in Africa or beyond . It’s all about the mindset and beliefs….
